Verbascum pulverulentum

ζ*V. pulverulentum Villars

ζ*V. pulverulentum Villars ζ*, hoary mullein, is sometimes cultivated for its attractive fls and was collected wild at the Rangiuru Saleyards, Te Puke, Bay of Plenty, in 1975. A biennial with white floccose stems 50-60 cm high and white floccose lvs which immediately distinguish it from V. thapsus; the infl. has many slender lateral branches, whereas it is simple or with 1-2 branches in the other spp. wild in N.Z.; the yellow fls are 1.5-2 cm diam., a little smaller than is usual in V. thapsus. (W. and S. Europe, 1981).
