ζembergeria grandifolia

ζEmbergeria grandifolia (Kirk) Boulos

ζEmbergeria grandifolia (Kirk) Boulos ζ was segregated from Sonchus in 1965. It differs from Sonchus in its larger achenes and in lacking the characteristic dimorphic pappus bristles. It was treated by Allan (1961) as S. grandifolius Kirk. The status of Embergeria in relation to Sonchus is not clear. It does not have the distinctly dimorphic pappus of Sonchus, but loss of adaptations to dispersal is a common feature of island plants such as Embergeria grandifolia. E. grandifolia may be closely related to S. kirkii, in which case it should be included in Sonchus. E. grandifolia is endemic to Ch.
