Oenothera tetraptera

ζ*O. tetraptera Cav.

ζ*O. tetraptera Cav. ζ* was collected in the nineteenth century and is almost certainly represented by CHR 22599, Bethlehem, near Tauranga, Hodgkins, Apr. 1939. A branched annual with white to rose fls. The only other sp. in N.Z. with fls of this colour is the perennial O. speciosa; the 2 spp. are also distinguished by the fr.: the capsule of O. tetraptera has a pedicel c. 1-3 cm long, whilst the capsule of O. speciosa (not seen in N.Z.) is sessile with a tapering sterile base. (C. and S. America, 1883).
