Rosa 'Madame Plantier'

ζ*R. 'Madame Plantier'

ζ*R. 'Madame Plantier' ζ*, bride's rose, is a hybrid of unknown origin which may be derived partly from a noisette rose [Thomas, G. S., Climbing Roses Old and New (1965)]. One collection (CHR 417995, Wainui, Akaroa Harbour, Sykes, 2.12.1984) is probably this cv. A scrambling plant; young lvs, shoots and infls with scattered glandular hairs, otherwise glabrous; fls c. 10, in loose clusters, double, pink to rose in bud, white at anthesis, with little scent; outer petals c. 2.5-3.5 cm long. Flowering is probably restricted to early summer. This cv. was one of the commonest roses grown in the early days of European settlement. It is superficially similar to the R. wichuraiana hybrid `Alberic Barbier' but the fl. buds of this cv. are pale yellow. (Origin unknown, 1966).
