Acroptilon repens

ζ*Acroptilon repens (L.) DC.

ζ*Acroptilon repens (L.) DC. ζ*, Russian knapweed, has dark perennating roots; stems erect, to 70 cm tall, with appressed white tomentum; lvs linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, the lower distantly toothed, the upper entire; capitula small, to 1 cm diam.; involucral bracts with scarious, sparsely tomentose, acuminate appendages; all florets tubular, all ⚥; achenes obovoid; pappus > achene, of free simple barbellate hairs. There is one collection, from Vernon in Marlborough, in pasture (CHR 89562, Healy, 11.11.1955), and this is referable to subsp. australe (Iljin) Rech. f.. (E. Europe, S.W. and C. Asia, 1960).
