Lotus tetragonolobus

ζ*L. tetragonolobus L.

ζ*L. tetragonolobus L. ζ*, asparagus pea, has been collected naturalised in Ruakura, Hastings, and Dunedin, but not since 1943. A hairy annual herb. Infl. 1-2-flowered, < or = lvs. Calyx teeth equal, 1-2× as long as tube; corolla crimson, 15-22 mm long. Pod with winged sutures; wings 2-5 mm wide. Asparagus pea has been previously known in N.Z. as Tetragonolobus purpureus. (Mediterranean to W. Russia, 1944).
