Slender, often rhizomatous, grass-like tufts, (3) -8-35- (80) cm high. Leaves few, usually < 3 mm wide. Inflorescence of several flower-clusters. Flowers 2-3.5 mm long; tepals light brown to red-brown with broad silver or cream margins. Stamens 6.
