Bromus erectus

ξB. erectus Huds. ξ, upright brome The single specimen consists of the upper part of a flowering culm. Panicle 12.5 cm, dense, erect; branches short, scabrid. Spikelets 3-3.5 cm, narrow-lanceolate. Glumes unequal; lower 1-3-nerved, subulate, upper 3-nerved. Lemma 7-nerved, faintly keeled, finely scabrid near apex; awn fine, 5-6 mm. Palea slightly < lemma. A Eurasian species recorded for Auckland by Kirk, T. in Hooker, J. D. Handbk N.Z. Fl. 763 (1867), and for Canterbury by Armstrong, J. F. T.N.Z.I. 4: 284 (1872). Only one specimen has been seen, T. Kirk Auckland, near St John's College, side of road, amongst gorse, 24.8.1888 (AK 98379).
