Collema subflaccidum

Description : Flora (1985: 143).

N: South Auckland (Kaimai Ra.). S: Canterbury (Arthur's Pass). On bark, still very much undercollected and poorly known in New Zealand. Known also from Scandinavia, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, Madeira, the Azores, Morocco, East Africa, South Africa, Hawai'i, North America, Mexico, Australia (Degelius 1954, 1974; Brodo 1981; Swinscow & Krog 1988; Kantvilas 1990c; Filson 1992c, 1996; Goward et al. 1994b; Esslinger & Egan 1995; Brodo et al. 2001; McCarthy 2003c, 2006; Schultz et al. 2004).

Collema subflaccidum is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the small to medium (2–6 cm diam.) thalli of shallowly lobulate, flattened or irregularly folded lobes, with numerous (often crowded, laminal isidia, globular to squamiform, giving a scurfy appearance to the upper surface. Apothecia unknown in New Zealand collections.
