Description : Flora (1985: 137).
N: Auckland, Wellington (Palmerston North, Wellington City). S: Canterbury (Port Hills Christchurch, Acland Falls Peel Forest), Otago (Otakau Bush). Mainly lowland, in shade on mossy bark of both introduced and native trees.

Collema fragrans var. contiguum is characterised by: the corticolous habit; a small (1–3 cm diam.) thallus with strongly knotted or isidia-like protuberances on the lobes; crowded, sessile apothecia, with strongly papillate or granular thalline margins; and submuriform ascospores (3–5 × 1–2 septa), 18–32 × 10–13(–17) μm.
