Lectotype: New Zealand. "Northern Island on twigs", W. Colenso 2601 ex herb. Leighton – BM [fide Degelius (1974: 192)].

Collema approximans. Lectotype: New Zealand. Titritea near Palmerston North, on tree trunks, iii.1934, E.E. Chamberlain ZA 50 – W [fide Degelius (1974: 192)]. Isolectotype – CHR.

Description : Flora (1985: 136).

N: Rare, known only from two collections, Colenso's type, and from Tiritea near Palmerston North. Known also from Tasmania (Filson 1992c: 165; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Collema fasciculare var. colensoi is characterised by: the finely whitish-downy upper surface, a unique and previously overlooked character in Collema.
