Lectotype. New Zealand. South I. Otago: Trotter's Gorge near Dunedin, J.S. Thomson ZA 315 – W [fide Esslinger (1977b: 109)]; Isolectotype – CHR 238701.
Description : Flora (1985: 302 – as Neofuscelia epheboides).
Chemistry : Cortex K−, HNO3 + dark blue-green; medulla K+ yellow-orange, C−, KC−, Pd+ red; containing protocetraric and fumarprotocetraric acids.
S: Otago (Trotter's Gorge). In New Zealand so far known only from the type collection. Recently recorded from Tasmania (Kantvilas et al. 2002: 69; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Xanthoparmelia epheboides is similar to X. petriseda, but has smaller thalli with distinctly narrower and thinner lobes and a darker lower surface.
