Description : Flora (1985: 462 – as Pseudoparmelia scotophylla).
Chemistry : Cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ yellow→red, C−, Pd+ yellow-orange; containing atranorin, salazinic acid (major) and consalazinic acid (minor).
N: Auckland (Rangitoto), South Auckland (Wairongomai Stream near Te Aroha). On rocks beside stream in open grassland. Known also from SE Australia, Tasmania and Norfolk I. (Kurokawa & Filson 1975; Elix 1994l, 2001b; Kantvilas et al. 2002; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Xanthoparmelia scotophylla is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; the greyish thallus; the cylindrical isidia; the pale-brown to dark-brown lower surface; and salazinic acid in the medulla.
