Arthonia indistincta is characterised by: the corticolous habit; yellowish brown, olivaceous to grey-black, areolate thallus; numerous, minute, subpunctiform to elongate-oblong, simple or branched apothecia, to 2 mm long, and arranged in parallel lines; and oblong, 3-septate ascospores constricted centrally, 22–28 × 8–10 μm.
