Luzula banksiana var. rhadina (Buchenau) Edgar

Type locality: Kurow, Waitaki Valley, North Otago. Type: WELT, 12596, D. P. [Petrie], Oct., 1892, (no. 1587/2 to K); isotype at AK.

Lvs 1–3–(5) mm. wide, very numerous, stiff and erect, former season's lvs persisting. Flowering stems 15–30 cm. long, = or > lvs. Infl. of ∞ pedunculate clusters of 5–12–(∞) fls, peduncles 0.5–3.5–(5) cm. long, rarely contracted to a single head. Fls 2–2.5–(3) mm. .long; tepals light or dark brown, with cream, membr. margins. Capsule occ. c. = tepals, light brown, darker towards the tip. 2n = 12.

DIST.: S. On the east of the main divide from Nelson Lakes southwards to Central Otago.

Inland on rock outcrops from 200–1,500 m. altitude.

The very lfy, rather stiff tufts and the infl. of ∞ small clusters of fls characterize this var.
