Acaena adscendens Vahl
Main stems stout, procumbent, up to 6 dm. long; branches ascending, glab. Lvs up to 10 cm. long, 6-7-foliolate; stipules c. 2 cm. long. Upper lflts green on both surfaces, glab. or nearly so above, pilose below, obovate-oblong, coarsely serrate-dentate; upper pair c. 1-1·5 cm. long. Scape stout, glab., up to 15 cm. long; heads c. 12 mm. diam. Cupules obconic, glab. below. Sepals glab. except at apex, about oblong. Stamens 4, anthers purple; spines purple. Stigma plumose.
DIST.: Macquarie Id? Whether the Macquarie Id plant really belongs to A. adscendens Vahl is uncertain, as Bitter loc. cit. 1911, 175 indicates, and further study with ampler material is needed.
