Type locality: Thames goldfields. Type: A, "J. Adams 3842".
Glab. bushy shrub up to ± 1 m. diam.; branchlets terete or nearly so. Lvs opp. on stout petioles ± 2 mm. long, or subsessile. Lamina thick, coriac., broad- to obovate- to elliptic-oblong, veins obscure, margins ± recurved. Infl. of axillary, 2-4-fld cymes on short peduncles. Fls sessile or subsessile, subtended by a small bract and 2 bracteoles. Receptacle-rim with 4 minute teeth. Tepals 4, at first dilated at middle, splitting ± 1/4 way down, and often with a dorsal split to base, 2-3 cm. long, reddish, tinged yellow-green. Anthers very narrow, basifixed, style = per., stigma capitate. Fr. ellipsoid, red, ± 8-9 mm. long.
