Stachytarpheta ×adulterina
ζ*Stachytarpheta × adulterina Urban et E. Ekman ζ* has been collected at Silverdale, N. Auckland and identified by H. N. Moldenke. Several spp. of this tropical American genus are widespread and sometimes serious weeds in tropical regions, including Melanesia and Polynesia; one of these is S. jamaicensis (L.) Vahl, under which name the Silverdale plant was first recorded. Stachytarpheta spp. are herbs or subshrubs with ± crenate-serrate lvs; fls in long narrow terminal spikes, opening a few at a time; calyx ± embedded in the rachis; corolla usually purple or violet, with a rather curved tube and 5 flattish lobes; fertile stamens 2 and staminodes 2; fr. dry, of 2 nutlets enclosed by the calyx. The specimen of S. × adulterina is too incomplete for many floral characters to be seen. (W. Indies, 1957).
