Madia capitata
ζ*M. capitata Nutt. ζ* is known certainly only from a collection by Thomson in Invercargill in 1880. An erect, viscid annual, very similar to M. sativa but differing in having the capitula in dense glomerules in the upper lf axils. This sp. is sometimes treated as var. congesta Torrey et A. Gray of M. sativa, and has been recorded in N.Z. as M. sativa var. viscosa although most references to var. viscosa probably refer to M. sativa sens. strict. Some Petrie and Kirk collections (WELT) from Balclutha may also be referable to M. capitata. (W. North America, 1885).
