Chaenotheca trichialis

Chemistry : TLC−, all reactions negative.

N: South Auckland (Mamaku Plateau near Rotorua) to Wellington (Ruahine Ra.). S: Nelson (Tasman Mts) to Southland (Pourakino Valley). On lignum of beech trees (Nothofagus fusca. N. menziesii, N. solandri), and on bark of N. menziesii and N. solandri; more rarely on bark of Dacrydium cupressinum, Kunzea ericoides, Podocarpus totara and Prumnopitys taxifolia, s.l. to 940 m. Very widely distributed in cool temperate to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere (Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, North America) and in Australia, at high altitudes in Africa and in Central and South America (Tibell 1999c: 39; Wolseley et al. 2002; McCarthy 2003c, 2006; Nimis & Martellos 2003; Tibell & Thor 2003; Hermansson & Pystina 2004;Tibell & Ryan 2004b; Titov et al. 2004).

Chaenotheca trichialis is characterised by: the Pd−, granular to squamulose thallus, the white pruina on the lower side of the well-developed exciple.
