Hypotrachyna producta

H. producta Hale, Smiths. Contr. Bot. 25: 56 (1975).

Description : Thallus loosely adnate, whitish mineral grey, 6–10 cm diam. Lobes sublinear becoming elongate and subdivaricate, 2–4 mm wide. Upper surface shining, plane, sorediate, the soredia subterminal in orbicular soralia, the sorediate lobes becoming subrevolute. Medulla white. Lower surface black, moderately rhizinate, the rhizines moderately to densely dichotomously branched. Apothecia not seen.

Chemistry : Cortex K+ yellow; medulla K−, C+ red, Pd−; containing atranorin and anziaic acid.

S: Southland (Knobbs Flat picinic area, Fiordland). On Nothofagus bark (Elix & Johnston 1991).

?Pantropical

Hypotrachyna producta is similar to H. laevigata but is distinguished by the medullary chemistry.
