Hypotrachyna ensifolia

Description : Flora (1985: 198)
Chemistry : Cortex K+ yellow; medulla K−, C−, KC+ pink, Pd−; containing atranorin, alectoronic and α-collatolic acids (UV+ blue-white).
S: Otago (Mt Brewster). On bark and twigs of Nothofagus solandri var. cliffortioides (mountain beech) at treeline. Probably more widely distributed in beech forests, but still very poorly known in New Zealand.

Hypotrachyna ensifolia is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the dichotomously branching lobes, and the copious development of marginal and laminal, flattened phyllidia.
