Lamina up to 25 mm. diam., but us. smaller; petioles up to 8cm. long. Umbels on peduncles up to 1 cm. long to subsessile (often on same plant).
DIST.: Three Kings; N. local; S. Queen Charlotte Sound.
Colenso's H. nitens (T.N.Z.I. 23, 1891, 386) was based on specimens "Forming large close-growing patches, or beds, sides of streamlets in plains, and in low shaded woods, near Dannevirke . . . 1887-90: W.C." His description includes: "Leaves glabrous, shining green, broadly orbicular, 2-3 lines wide, basal sinus deep. 5-nerved, 6-lobed; lobes imbricate above. each 3-crenate-toothed; teeth large, broad, and sub-acute; sinuses shallow, their bases rounded and clear; petiole 1 in.-11/2 in. long, erect, with a few weak long hairs at the top . . . Peduncle slender, erect, nearly as long as petiole, glabrous. Umbel 5-8- flowered; flowers shortly pedicelled, pedicels increasing in length in fruit . . . Fruit very small, oblate-globular, turgid; mericarps 1/20 in. diameter, 1 rib on face, back sub-acute; commissure deep; light brown . . . small neat and regular close glossy green leaves."
