Hydrocotyle americana L.

H. americana L. Sp Pl. 1753, 234.

Patches up to c. 2dm. diam.; plant flaccid, glab. or nearly so; stems filiform. Lvs on very slender to filiform petioles 1-2-5 cm. long. Lamina delicate, rather pale green, glossy, up to 2 cm. or more diam.; 5-7-lobed, lobes shallow, crenulate; basal sinus wide to narrow. Umbels 3-5-(10)-fld on peduncles (1)-2 mm. long. Fls sessile or subsessile; fr. < 2 mm. diam., pale yellowish brown, glab. or ± hispid. Mericarps with acute dorsal margin and us. prominent rib on each face.

DIST.: Three kings, N., S., St. Coastal to lowland damp and shaded places throughout.
