Lampranthus "purple"

ζ*L. "purple" ζ* is a cultivation escape that has been collected once only, from Taylor's Mistake, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, on a roadside bank. A bushy shrub with twiggy dark brown stems, the branches erect; lvs glaucous, subterete to weakly 3-angled, (20)-30-40 × 2-4 mm, 3-4 mm thick; keel smooth and rounded throughout; fls 2-4 in terminal cymes, 50-55 mm diam.; petals rich purple above, slightly paler beneath. (S. Africa, 1988).
