Erechtites minimus var. angustatus Allan

Var. angustata Allan var. nov. 

Type locality: Caswell Sound. Type: BD 67287, A. L. Poole. 18/3/48.

Similar in habit to var. heterophylla but us. more slender. Lower lvs spreading, c. 8-12 cm. × 5 mm., linear-lanceolate, sub-coriac., sharply dentate, acute, tapering to petiolate base; auricles small. Mid and upper lvs similar, smaller, merging into bracts of infl. Infl. of subcorymbose large to medium panicles. Capitula ∞, c. 6·5 mm. long, 5 mm. diam. Phyll. narrow-linear, c. 6 mm. long, subacute, widened at base, margins scarious. Florets c. 20, much as in var. heterophylla. Achenes c. 1 mm. long, finely grooved, hispidulous on ridges. Pappus-hairs fine, white, c. 6 mm. long.

DIST.: S., A. Coastal strand, streamsides, clearings; plentiful in Fiordland. Also collected near Dunedin and on Auckland Is.
