ζPoranthera

ζPoranthera ζ was revised by Hutchinson, J., Amer. J. Bot. 56: 738-758 (1969); he referred the endemic P. alpina Cheeseman to Oreoporanthera Hutch. and retained the second indigenous sp., P. microphylla Brongn., which also occurs in Australia, in Poranthera. The most distinct characters used by Hutchinson to define Oreoporanthera are those associated with the evolution of dioecism, a not uncommon event in N.Z. Lf characters also included in his generic diagnosis do not distinguish Oreoporanthera from Poranthera and therefore Oreoporanthera is not accepted here. A new sp. referred to Oreoporanthera has been described recently from Tasmania by Orchard, A. E. and Davies, J. B., Pap. Proc. Roy. Soc. Tasmania 119: 61-63 (1985). Poranthera is referred to Poranthaceae by some authors.
