Pertusaria paratropa

P. paratropa Müll.Arg., Bull. Herb. Boissier 3: 639 (1895)

Description : Thallus grey-white, areolate, surface smooth and dull, without isidia or soredia. Apothecia verruciform, numerous, scattered, very flattened-hemispherical, 0.5–1 mm diam.; ostioles conspicuous, black, pseudolecideine, 1(2–3) per verruca. Ascospores 8 per ascus, irregularly biseriate, ellipsoidal, smooth, 37–55 × 20–30 μm.

Chemistry : TLC−, all reactions negative.

N: ? On rocks, s.l. to 1750 m. Also in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in Australia (Archer 1997, 2004: 152–153; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Australasian

Pertusaria paratropa is characterised by: the saxicolous habit; 8-spored asci; conspicuous black ostioles; and the absence of lichen compounds. It is similar to P. erubescens but that species contains norstictic acid.
