Pertusaria duppensis

P. duppensis A.W.Archer & Malcolm in J.A. Elix, W.M. Malcolm & A.W. Archer, Mycotaxon 53: 274 (1995).

Holotype: New Zealand. Nelson, Mt Duppa Track, on Griselinia littoralis, c. 750 m, 23.v.1993, W.M. Malcolm 846 – CHR 470260.

Description : Thallus pale-fawn, thin, continuous. Upper surface smooth, dull, without isidia or soredia. Apothecia disc-like, inconspicuous, scattered, immersed, pale-grey, translucent, with a black margin, 0.2–0.4 mm diam.; disc surface epruinose, glossy. Ascospores 8 per ascus, irregularly 1- or 2-seriate, ellipsoidal, smooth, 33–41 × 18–22 μm; wall 2–4 μm thick.

Chemistry : TLC−, all reactions negative.

S: Nelson (Mt Duppa). On bark of Griselinia littoralis. Known only from the type collection.

Endemic

Pertusaria duppensis is characterised by: the corticolous habit; inconspicuous translucent discs; and the lack of any secondary chemistry.
