Vaccaria hispanica
ζ*Vaccaria hispanica (Miller) Rauschert ζ*, cow cockle, with a 5-winged inflated calyx and purple, pink or white petals, has been recorded as rare and local in Canterbury (as V. pyramidata), Auckland and Invercargill, but only one 20th century specimen has been seen (CHR 398224, Windwhistle, Canterbury, Abbott, 31.12.1982). The sp. has also been recorded in N.Z. as Saponaria vaccaria, and V. parviflora. (S. and C. Europe, N. Africa, S.W. Asia, 1871).
