Leucadendron argenteum

ζ*Leucadendron argenteum (L.) R. Br.

ζ*Leucadendron argenteum (L.) R. Br. ζ*, Cape silver tree, has been found wild on Motukiekie Id (Bay of Islands, N. Auckland). It is widely cultivated in warmer parts of the country, particularly near the coast, and is one of the few arborescent spp. in the genus. It is easily distinguished by the silvery hairy lvs which are usually 4-11 × 1-2 cm, the white-villous bracts and insides of perianth segments and the hairy black nutlet with its persistent style villous at the base. As with all Leucadendron spp. it is dioecious and the frs are in woody cone-like heads. (South Africa, 1984).
