Carex lambertiana Boott

C. lambertiana Boott in Hook. f. Fl. N.Z. 1, 1853, 284.

Bright green, robust, leafy tufts to 1 m high. Female spikes c. 5, erect on short peduncles, ± 5 cm × 5 mm, dark red-brown. Glumes all deeply emarginate. Utricles obovoid. Stigmas 3.

N. common in North Auckland and Auckland; scattered further south. S. Nelson; Marlborough; Canterbury - Ashley Gorge, Riccarton Bush, Banks Peninsula. Lowland; forest, scrub or swamps, usually not far from the coast.
