Carex wakatipu Petrie

C. wakatipu Petrie T.N.Z.I. 14, 1882, 363.

Tufts dark green, reddish-green or yellow-green, very variable, to ± 30 cm high, stems much < to much > leaves. Female spikes c. 4, crowded at same level, 1-2 cm long, light, brown. Stigmas 2.

S. Common; Westland - one gathering from Lake Brunner; not recorded from Fiordland. Montane to alpine; usually in snow-tussock grassland but also in fescue-tussock grassland.
