Doronicum plantagineum
ζ*Doronicum plantagineum L. ζ*, leopard's bane, has been collected twice as a persistent garden discard, from roadside grass and stop banks, Hutt R., and waste land in Kaiapoi (Canterbury). Perennial herb, with tufts of sericeous hairs at nodes of rhizomes; basal lvs long-petiolate, ovate-elliptic, dentate; cauline lvs few, sessile; capitula solitary; involucral bracts herbaceous, numerous, in 2-3 rows; supplementary bracts 0; receptacle hairy; ray florets > 30, lacking a pappus; ligules yellow, c. 15-30 mm long. N.Z. material has somewhat more toothed lvs than is typical for this sp. It has previously been recorded in N.Z. as D. pardalianches L. (W. Europe, 1958).
