Porina chrysophora

P. chrysophora (Stirt.) R.Sant., Symb. Bot. Upsal. 12 (1): 222 (1952).

Verrucaria chrysophora Stirt., Proc. phil. Soc. Glasgow 10: 303 (1877).

Holotype: New Zealand. Near Wellington, on leaves of Hymenophyllum dilatatum, 1874, J. Buchanan – GLAM. Isotypes – BM, WELT.

Description : Flora (1985: 414).

N: Wellington. On leaves of filmy ferns. Records of this species from West Africa, Vietnam, Taiwan, Java, Japan, New Caledonia and northern Queensland (Santesson 1952; Thor et al. 2000; McCarthy 2001f: 121; 2003c; 2006; Lücking & Kalb 2001; Aptroot 2003a; Kurokawa 2003) refer to P. kamerunensis (Lücking in McCarthy 2003d: 32).

Endemic

Porina chrysophora is characterised by: the foliicolous habit; black perithecia covered by an external, algiferous layer; and fusiform, 3-septate ascospores, 18–23 × 3.5–4.5 μm.
