Var. pumila.
Forster's description is: "seminibus oblongis incurvatis, foliis orbiculatis, crenato-serratis, serraturis mucronatis, scapo nudo unifloro. F. Nova Zeelandia." Under his Microcalia australis Richard gives Calendula pumila Forst. f. as a synonym. His description was based on specimens from Astrolabe Harbour, and includes: "Radix fibrosa aut interdum repens. Caulis gracilis, filiformis, simplex . . . Folia ad basin caulis plura, alterna, petiolata, orbiculata, crenato-serrata, unguicularia, piloso-ciliata, aut subglabra, pctiolo pollicari, foliis fere duplo longiori, subcanaliculato, ciliato. CAPITULUM radiatum . . . Corolla [of ray-florets] ligulata . . . tubo breve hirto, limbo lineari, patente, apice obscure 3-dentato." The fruits are described as: "Compressi, submarginati, margine incrassata, apice basique attenuata." The figure shows lvs with laminae 15-16 × 8-10 mm. with ∞ serrate-dentate teeth, on petioles 10-14 mm. long; scape very slender, c. 8 cm. long, capitulum c. 17 mm. diam. L. forsteri of De Candolle was also based on specimens from Astrolabe Harbour. Both Richard's and De Candolle's descriptions agree fairly well with the Forsterian ones.
