ARISTIDEAE

Annual or usually perennial tufted herbs. Ligule ciliate. Leaf-blade narrow, flat or convolute. Inflorescence an open to densely contracted panicle with pedicelled 1-flowered spikelets; rachilla not prolonged. Florets ⚥. Glumes usually persistent, usually 1-nerved, equal or unequal, membranous to scarious, usually > lemma. Lemma faintly 1-3-nerved, terete, chartaceous to ± coriaceous, convolute or involute and concealing small palea, terminal awn 3-fid. Lodicules 2-3, rarely 0, glabrous, strongly nerved. Stamens 3, rarely 1. Ovary glabrous; styles 2; stigmas plumose. Caryopsis usually fusiform; embryo ¼-⅔ length of caryopsis; hilum linear.
