Oryzeae

ORYZEAE

Herbaceous. Ligule membranous. Leaf-blade usually linear without cross-veins. Inflorescence a panicle with ⚥ spikelets, or plant monoecious and spikelets unisexual. Spikelets 1-flowered, or 3-flowered with 2 lower florets Ø and reduced to lemmas (not in N.Z.), usually laterally compressed; rachilla not prolonged. Glumes 0, or as obscure lips at tip of pedicel. Lemma membranous to coriaceous, 5-10-nerved, with straight terminal awn or awnless. Palea resembling lemma, 3-7-nerved; keel central. Lodicules 2. Stamens usually 6, sometimes fewer. Stigmas 2, plumose. Caryopsis linear to ovoid.
