Hypogymnia pulchrilobata
≡Parmelia pulchrilobata Bitter, Hedwigia 40: 244 (1901).

Chemistry : Cortex K+ yellow; medulla KC+ red, Pd−; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, physodic acid (major), 3-hydroxyphysodic acid, 2'- O- methylphysodic acid (minor) and alectoronic acid (tr.) (Elix 1992).
S: Otago (Flagstaff Hill Dunedin). Apparently rather rare in New Zealand where it is a lowland species from twigs and dead branches of trees and shrubs. Known also from Australia (Elix 1980, 1992; McCarthy 2003c, 2006).

Hypogymnia pulchrilobata is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the short, broad, inflated lobes that are ±contiguous throughout thallus; lobe apices that are generally rounded, expanded and flattened and secondary lobes are absent; and apical perforations that are common on the undersides of`lobes and rarely also on the upper surface.
