Holotype: Tasmania, Lake St. Clair Natl. Park, Mt. Rufus, NW of Derwent Bridge, 4500–4750 ft., Schuster 50541.
Leafy shoots 150–290(320) µm wide; abaxial surface of leaves freely armed; gametangial branches not clustered; cells of perianth mouth 28–41(48) µm.
Distribution and Ecology : New Zealand: South Island (390–1100 m). Also known from Tasmania.
In New Zealand known from Western Nelson (Cobb Valley) and Westland (Maruia River valley near Reids Stream, St. Arnaud) EPs.
Found on mounds of Sphagnum cristatum in Sphagnum bogs with varying amounts of Empodisma minus and Chionochloa rubra, surrounded by Nothofagus solandri var. cliffortioides forest.
