Physocarpus opulifolius
ζ*Physocarpus opulifolius (L.) Maxim. ζ* was collected wild in scrub on Mt Ruapehu in 1949. A large deciduous shrub with 3-5-lobed, crenate-dentate lvs. Fls whitish, c. 1 cm diam., many in corymbs; fr. papery, inflated, follicular, c. 6 mm long, consisting of 3-5 carpels which dehisce down both sides. The fr. characters distinguish Physocarpus Maxim. from other members of subfam. Spiraeoideae. (E. North America, 1988).
