Var. ciliolata.

Type locality: Hopkins River. Type: K, Haast.

Cushions large and rather soft, 2-5 cm. high; branchlets ± 5-8 mm. diam. including lvs. Lvs rather loosely imbricate, 3-5 × 2.5-3·5 mm., obovate-spathulate, broadly obtuse to subacute, us. closely and evenly ciliate round broad upper portion but cilia few near base. Outer surface of calyx-lobes sparsely hairy near tip, margins ciliate.

DIST.: S. Western side of main divide from c. lat. 43° to 44° 30'.
