Type locality: Cape Kidnappers. Type: K, "Colenso 407". Hooker (loc. cit.) records also "Bay of Islands, East Cape, Colenso".

Sparingly branched, stems stout. Lower lvs 7-15 × 2-4 cm., narrow-oblong in outline, coriac., subacute to subacuminate, coarsely irregularly dentate-serrate; upper lvs obovate-cuneate. Capitula 1 cm. long, up to 2 cm. diam.; phyll. c. 5 mm. long. Achenes subcompressed, grooved, hispid, c. 2 mm. long; pappus-hairs up to 5 mm. long.
