Lecidea dracophylli

L. dracophylli Zahlbr. [ nom. nov.], Cat. lich. univ. 3 (5): 756 (1925).

Biatora subfuscescens Hellb. Bihang K. Sv.Vet.-Akad. Handl. 21 (3/13): 104 (1896) non. Nyl. [Lecidea subfuscescens, Flora 56: 199 (1873)].

Lectotype: New Zealand. Canterbury: Porters Pass, 1000 m, on twigs of Dracophyllum, ii.1874, S. Berggren L5 – S [fide Galloway (1985a: 231)].

Description : Flora (1985: 230–231).

Chemistry : Not tested.

N: Taranaki (Stratford Mountain House). S: Canterbury (Porter's Pass, Lake Lyndon) Throughout, in subalpine scrub zone on Dracophyllum.

Endemic

Lecidea dracophylli is characterised by: the corticolous habit; the effuse, grey-fawn to glaucous or ochraceous, granular thallus; dark-brown to black apothecia; a green-black epithecium; and ellipsoidal ascospores, 12–15.5 × 5–7 μm. As indicated above, this species is not correctly accommodated in Lecidea s. str.
