Lagenifera lanata

L. lanata A. Cunn. in Ann. nat. Hist. 2, 1839, 126.

Type locality: "Among fern between the Waitangy and Keri-Keri rivers". Type: K, R. Cunningham. The type has sinuate lvs with few teeth.

Tufted herb with simple or few-branched stock, rhizomes absent; roots stout, fleshy, bunched, c. 3 mm. diam. Basal lvs rosulate; lamina ± 10-25 × 5-15 mm., obovate-oblong to obovate-cuneate, rather thin, soft, densely clad on both surfaces in ± appressed soft hairs; margins coarsely, shallowly, rather distantly crenate-dentate to crenate-serrate to subentire; apex us. rounded, sts apiculate. Petioles 5-10-20 mm. long, flat. Cauline lvs 0 or 1-3, similar, smaller. Scapes (5)-10-20-(30) cm. long, glab. or nearly so, slender. Bracts us. several, linear, c. 2 mm. long. Capitula 5-8-(10) mm. diam.; phyll. narrow-oblong, obtuse to acute, glab. or nearly so; hyaline margins narrow. Ray-florets ∞; ligules short. Achenes 2.5-2·75 × c. 1 mm., obliquely obovate, glab.; margins thickened. Beak stout, c. 0·5 mm. long, following curvature of margin.

DIST.: N. Fern-clad and open country from near North Cape to c. lat. 37°.
