Bromus japonicus var. vestitus

ξB. japonicus var. vestitus (Schrad.) Halácsy ξLeaves villous. Culm to 25 cm, sparsely hairy below panicle. Panicle c. 15 cm, very lax, nodding. Spikelets 3-3.5 cm, 8-10-flowered, greyish- to silver-green. Glumes unequal, acute to acuminate, densely appressed-pubescent; lower 9-10.5 mm, 3-nerved, upper 11-12.5 mm, 5-nerved. Lemma 12-13 mm, 7-9-nerved, rounded, densely appressed-pubescent; awn 10-15 mm. Palea c. ¾ length of lemma, keel sparsely long-ciliate with shorter hairs interspersed, interkeel and flanks short-hairy. Anthers c. 1 mm. South African species once collected at Wellington, ballast heap, T. Kirk 1893 (CHR 3440, CHR 112334-5, WELT 70997, WELT 76367).
