Var. dubia

Var. dubia (Kirk) Allan comb. nov. 

B. thomsonii var. dubia Kirk Stud. Fl. 1899, 261.

Type locality: Cape Whanbrow. Type: A, 9389, T. Kirk (796 to Kew). Lectotype of Davis, loc. cit. 1949, 100.

Stock rather slender, descending, simple or sparingly branched, up to c. 15 cm. tall. Lvs mostly radical and subradical, glab. or nearly so; lamina 15-20-(30) × 7-15 mm., rather thin, broadly to rather narrowly obovate, shallowly crenately lobed; lobes few, obtuse, ± apiculate. Cauline lvs c. 3-0; lower similar to radical, upper reduced to linear bracts. Scapes slender to rather stout, ± 10-15 cm. long, rather densely glandular-pubescent towards apex. Capitula c. 7-10 mm. diam.; phyll. c. 3 mm. long, ovate-oblong to oblong, glandular-pubescent, margins ± scarious. Receptacle distinctly convex. Ray-florets c. 5 mm. long, white. Achenes narrow-obovoid, 2-3 mm. long, distinctly glandular-pubescent. Pappus of minute bristles.

DIST.: S. Cape Whanbrow, near Oamaru; near Green Id, D. Petrie.

The specimens of Kirk in W appear to be from the same gathering.
