CORTADERIINAE

Large tussocky perennials with basal leaves. Inflorescence a large plumose panicle. Spikelets 3-4-flowered; florets ⚥ or ♀ on separate plants (gynodioecious). Glumes persistent, transparent, 1-nerved, ≥ spikelet. Lemma 3-nerved, long hairy; awn straight between lemma lobes. Palea < lemma. Stamens 3; anthers shorter in male-sterile flowers. Fruit a caryopsis.
