Type locality: Ruahine mountain range, east side. Type: A, 8436, H. Hill, ex Herb. Colenso.
Flat-topped shrub to 2.5 m. tall, much branched from base. Branchlets fully but minutely pubescent, length of internodes 1-3 × diam. Lvs erecto-patent, c. 2-4 × 0·5-1 cm., elliptic-oblong, glossy but drying dull, paler beneath; lf-bud without sinus; lamina minutely truncated at tip, glab. except for very minute pubescence on upper side of midrib and in narrow band on entire margin, stomata not visible below. Infls lateral, simple, slender, not much > lvs in fl., elongating in fr. to 5-6 cm., peduncles c. 1 cm. long. Bracts ciliolate, = or < short pedicels. Calyx-lobes 1·5-2 mm. long, obtuse to subacute, ciliolate on pale border. Corolla white, tube c. = calyx, lobes c. 2.5 × 1·5 mm., rounded. Capsule erect, c. 4 × 2.5 mm., ± pointed, glab.
