Davalliaceae M.R.Schomb.

DAVALLIACEAE

Sori terminal on veinlets, dorsal to submarginal. Indusium ± elongate, attached by base and sides, or round-reniform. Sporangia stalked, maturation mixed; annulus straight or curved, us. interrupted. Spores ± oblong, bilateral, with or without perispore. Rhizome elongate or reduced to an oblique stock, dictyostelic to solenostelic, not stoloniferous. Paleae sts ciliate, hairs present or absent; stipes us. articulate. Fronds decompound to pinnate, veins free Prothallus cordate.

The family is not well-defined, of about 10 genera, some often placed in Oleandraceae. Holttum (Biol. Rev. 24, 1949, 286) places Rumohra adiantiformis here, and Arthropteris, Nephrolepis in Oleandroideae.
